Installing in VirtualBox and it hangs at installation partition is formatted.

You are trying to get OS/2 Warp 4.52 installed on VirtualBox. You can
only get the second ISO file for OS/2 Warp 4.52 (OS2 Warp 4.52 CD
2.iso) to work. First you can get the first ISO file for OS/2 Warp
4.52 (OS2 Warp 4.52 CD 1.iso) to work after the logo and when starting
the installation process.

When you try to do a long format as HPS, the system takes too long or
hangs at the following message.
Please wait while the installation partition is formatted...

How do you fix this?

Here is an inappropriate topic posted to the group (this includes

Being a virtual setup which is nothing more than a file, I see no reason
for a long format. Try it with the quick format option.

Two things,
(a) since you are using a virtual drive you do not require to do a
long format of the virtual disk.
(b) the first CD is only there to do the initial starting (the
equivalent of the boot diskettes), then you have to change to CD2 to
continue the install.

I would recommend that you get UPDCD
http://xenia.sote.hu/~kadzsol/rexx/sajat/updcd.htm and use that to
update your Warp 4.52 and also integrate it into one bootable CD.

I don't see any inappropriate posts here but then I an using newsnet
not google groups so can't help with deleting.

How to install it in VirtualBox? When you switch to the 3rd diskette,
you get a bunch of messages saying The system cannot find the file
"filename". This device driver, program, or data file is not located
in the default path or the path specified for it in the CONFIG.SYS
file. Install this file in the correct directory or correct the
appropriate CONFIG.SYS file statement.

How about posting in comp.os.os2.apps

Yeah. You have OS/2 installed on your virtual machine list

Explorer? Yeah... you have installed OS/2 on your virtual machine list

OK, one last try.

What version of VirtualBox are you using?
What is the host operating system?
Post the full settings under the 'general, details' tab - especially
the CPU settings.
What is the virtual hard disk size?
How is the CD set up, virtual or an actual CD drive?
Is audio enabled?
What virtual network card have you enabled?

When you supply answers to all of the above we might be able to start
helping you.

For example I have everything from OS/2 v1.3 to Warp 4 CP2 running on
actual hardware not virtual machines although we have OS/2 WSeB as
virtual machines on our servers.

Your version of VirtualBox using is 4.2.12 (with all unused language
files deleted!).
Your host operating system is XP.
Not required.
20.00 (eComStation 2.0 RC4), 64.00 GB (eComStation 2.0 RC5), 2.00 GB
(eComStation 2.0 RC7), 8.00 (eComStation 2.2 Demo).
CD is set for all operating systems.
The audio system in eComStation (as a guest operating system) crashes
VirtualBox latest versions.

I can confirm this. Using VirtualBox's emulated sound card (regardless
if SB16 or AC97) sooner or later crashes the VM. Sometimes a Trap
screen, sometimes freeze.

I ended up using PM123 with PulseAudio to transfer Sound.

It is still a developer release of PM123 1.41. ;-)
It ships with pulse123.dll, a PulseAudio plug-in.

I could send you a copy if you like to test it. But be aware, while the
PulseAudio client is quite stable, there might be other bugs in PM123
that cause unexpected behavior or even crashes (of PM123 not the VM).

Yeah. Thanks to Marcel for posting the file name! Note that System VIO
has a lowercase l that you can distinguish from the number 1. Then...
you have already installed most of the virtual machines for VirtualBox
(FreeDOS - older, Windows 8 Enterprise - modern). Older is non-Unicode
while modern is Unicode. He seems to get mad when we reject our
submissions from MobyGames (Tae Wong) with negative comments!

It could be a corrupted install disc, but tell what the message says, all

You have successfully installed OS/2 and eComStation under VirtualBox

In VirtualBox, there are stuff that cannot be translated. Samples are
"Starting virtual machine ...", "Restoring virtual machine ..." and
"Saving the execution state of the virtual machine ...".

You can use Mozilla Thunderbird to read newsgroups, you might find that
more convenient. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all.html

Looks like the option is kind of hidden in recent versions of Thunderbird
but it seems to be "File" --> "New" --> "Other Accounts" --> "Newsgroup

(Or you can use SeaMonkey.)
